Wait, wait... but isn't 'volcano' from 'Vulcan' or 'Vulcanus,' which is the name of a Greco-Roman god of blacksmithing or something? Surely they made the connection and called them Vulcan mountains or God-forge overload or something and then English got their name for the thing from that? o_0 It... just doesn't make any sense!!!

I think Vulcan came first as a name, and then they finally developed "vulcanus" AFTER Vesuvius did its thing. ^^;;

At least, that's my guess. So I suppose there is a Latin word for it *now*, but there wasn't in August of 79AD. >>;

Thanks! I just found the icon, actually. I've only this last week gotten into bleach, and am now obsessed with cosplaying Ichigo. I have a lot of material to catch up on, so that I can play out the costume. And if someone can make a badass sword, that would be me. ^_^
