So... Been a crazy - but fun - weekend. I've been hanging out with Jen and Brandon mostly, but also getting some stuff done here. I moved my bed against the other wall and stashed the appropriate posters under it until after this whole trip is over. ^^; I even vacuumed, since the vacuum itself has to go back to Jen by the end of the weekend because 1) it's hers and 2) I promised to clean her floor because of the mess we've made sewing and paper mache-ing. Speaking of, the Loki staff and the kwan dao are both totally mache'd now and waiting to dry, and because I'm such a geek I took some pix in case anyone's interested in how they look so far:

Loki's staff

Ren's kwan dao

We also started on the hair - first I sewed the extension we bought to the back of Jen's old Dark wig (which turned me PURPLE when I washed it o.O) and then we hung it upside-down and painted it with fabric stiffener and let it dry. Now it's shaped like Ren's pointy stabbity hair of death! It still needs cutting, but the preliminary results are as follows:

Ren wig: front

Ren wig: back

W00t! Tonight/tomorrow we sand, glaze, and paint the weapons and finish shaping and cutting Ren's hair. I... think this will get done before I leave. ::crosses fingers::

Oh, and for pure random otaku-ness:

Atobe got killed by the Inui Juice!

Yes, we are nerds/geeks/hopeless.

Anyway, hanging out last night yielded lots of random fun, mostly because we were all really tired and crazy-like. There was an interesting incident involving a container of KFC honey barbeque sauce, but all parties involved shall remain nameless or I might die. ^^; Needless to say, the ability of said barbeque sauce to defy gravity is really quite impressive. XD There was also much chocolate, some homemade donuts, and lots of fun anime music.

That's about it for my random update; I'm really exhausted but I don't think I can sleep. Besides, when Jen and Brandon wake up I guess it'll be time to go back and work on more stuff...

Dude, that's totally fucking awesome. XD You'll have to visit MIT sometime and teach me some 1337 wig-fu, like how to sew in extensions and whatnot. :D

Good luck on your other costumes! <3

OMG that icon rocks!! XD (Gee, I say that to you a lot...)

Yeah, sewing in the extensions really wasn't too bad, considering. And apparently it's all about fabric stiffener - you paint it onto the hair with a brush and let it sit overnight (in this case, upside-down) and it's SOLID in the morning.

Ooo, that's really cool! Can you actually sand paper mache? Or do you have to paper mache really really thick for that to work (I'm imagining a lot of fibers getting in the way of a clean sand)?

Regardless, that's awesome! Good luck on finishing on time ^_^

You can sand paper mache, depending on how thick you put it on. What we're doing is covering it with laquer and sanding off the laquer, but I'm pretty sure you can sand the mache itself (though it's not too clean of a sand that way, no). We just figured waterproofing and giving it a bit more structural support was never a bad thing! ^_^

Huh, how thick can you get it on there? I always thought lacquer was pretty thin stuff, didn't think you could sand that, either... I apparently don't think you can sand many things.

Aren't you ever afraid that those plushie things will come to life at night and multiply and take over a small portion of civilization? Because I sure as hell am.

You should make a comic about it :P Especially since you haven't done one for a bit.

1) Comic doesn't get updated until I have internet access on my own computer, which means not until I have a new apartment. Actually, I do have temporary access. I should throw up a short doodle.

2) Natsuki's (http://www.livejournal.com/users/uzu_uzu/) obsession with dolls is scary enough for me to make further comment on it.

3) If that's who I think it is, then... uh, hello.
