First off, Happy Easter! My head hurts. -_-;; Could be the result of little sleep and practically no food all weekend but hey, Anime Boston was worth it! Here's my best shot at a conreport for the moment. Pictures to follow (hopefully) shortly.
Thursday:
Jennie and I went to go pick up our passes at night since registration was open from 7-9pm. It only took about 30 minutes, not a long wait at all. Talked to various otaku, had fun. ^^ Jennie had brought Alex's Zabuza shoes and I had brought Leah's Misao and Lucciola costumes, so we waited around to find them and give them their stuff. Met up with Adam, talked for a bit, and then Alex and Sean showed up. Hung out, made a small field trip to CVS for stuff for Kenshin's scar, then met up with Leah back at the hotel and gave her the costumes before heading home. Picked up Yahiko's bokken from the office on the way, pressed Yahiko's pants and Rei's skirt, and tried to get some pre-con rest!
Friday:
Skipped class 'cause I only had one in the morning, figured I could do without learning about hurricanes for one day. Headed off to AniBos in the morning around 10:30. Costumes: Faye Valentine (Jennie), Myoujin Yahiko (Ali-chan). Walked along Memorial Drive (attempting to avoid walking right through the middle of campus and looking like strange, strange people). We're not sure if this was better or not. ^^; The weather was a little cool but sunny, not bad at all. Got to the con, hung out on the mezzanine for a while, ran into lots of AniClub people (Will, Dan). Stopped into the Chibi Project panel with Will and Sean, which was rather amusing. XD At one point Yahiko got dragged around by a Kaoru looking for a Kenshin with which to take a picture, but we never found him and as Faye was being assaulted every few feet for pictures, I had to abandon Kaoru promising we'd find her later. We went to the dealers' room after a bit, though it was kinda cold waiting in line for nearly an hour to get in (it was across the street from the main hotel, in the "castle"). While in line I saw a GUY cosplaying Ginji who had a sign: "Have you seen my Ban-chan?" XD Good stuff, though, and LOTS of booths and stuff to blow money on. I kept hitting people accidentally with the bokken, even though it was strapped to my back, and apologized a lot, telling them (if they were girls) not to feel bad and to just tell people that Yahiko had kept hitting on them. ^^;;
Adam showed up so I had a Kenshin, and a bit later I ran home to pick up Steph, who (wearing my yukata) was Kaoru. We all hung out for a bit with AniClub people in the Clubhouse at 4, which was the MIT Anime Club hour in there, so it was fun meeting up with other AniClub people ("Are you EVER going to cosplay a girl?") and meeting some people planning on joining, like Sean (who shall probably now be Xellos-Sean, since there's also Kakashi-sensei Sean and I'm not sure how else to differentiate among all the Seans I know o.o;;). Took some pix with people from the club, including Lindy (Hinata) and Dan (Sousuke). Skuld-chan (Sol) and Roni (Ky) also showed up, and it was great meeting her. Plus they had REALLY nice costumes.
Steph and I hit the dealers' room and looked at more stuff. Went to Comicopia, where I was told, "Wow. We didn't recognize you, your hair looks so different. And so does the rest of you..." ^^; Hung out in the dealers' room until it closed, then went to go take some Kenshin-gumi pix. Just as we were doing so, Leah - Misao - showed up so she joined us in the fun. We also hit a crane-folding panel, so now I supposedly know how to fold cranes... >>;;
A bit later a whole bunch of us went to China Pearl for dinner. Both Seans, Lindy, Will, Steph, Andy (who felt odd for NOT wearing a costume, so there!), Adam, Skuld, Roni, Alex, Jennie, Dan, and more people that I'm sure I'm forgetting (ahh, I'll think of them later!). We got the dim sum menu, and it was very yummy. Well-fed after having not eaten all day, we tried to head back and make it to the AMV contest, but it was full and we couldn't get in. So we hung out some more, and did random con stuff (game room but no Para Para). Went to Skuld-chan's panel on Yaoi and Shounen-ai in Anime, Manga, etc., which was really cool and we were sad we had to leave a bit early to make sure we got the T home.
Saturday:
Got up around 9ish, got dressed and out the door a little earlier than on Friday. Costumes: Temari (Jennie), Claus (Ali-chan). Again, a little cool but overall very pleasant. Got to the con pretty quickly, met up with Kakashi-sensei Sean and he and Jennie immediately got assaulted for pictures. ^^;; I got a few, and promptly decided that anyone who knew that I was from Last Exile was going to get glomped. A few people did, much to my happiness, and I also got quite a few pix taken by people who just thought the costume was really cool. Also got a *lot* of compliments on my hair. o.o;; Like, one guy just ran by and said, "You have amazing hair," and left. ^//^;; Yay for awesome wigs. Anyway, also met up with Xellos Sean (his staff LIT UP! Woo!!) and Dan and his friend, and wandered, wandered, got pix taken, and then Zabuza (Alex ^^) and Jiraya (... crap, can't remember name ;_;) showed up. *Awesome* costumes!! XD Along with Temari, they got assaulted quite often for pix. ^^; The ninjas left for food and Xellos and I went to the dealers' room to look at *more* stuff. Also hit artists' alley and looked at all the pretty pictures. Took the ninjas out for a mini-photoshoot, and got in line for the Crispin Freeman panel on Anime Mythology. Met up with Steph (dressed as Miyu, it looked so good!) and stood in the back of the panel but as it wasn't much talking and was actually a really boring video, we left after a bit.
Jennie and I went back to MIT to get changed into Injured Rei (Jennie) and Ryoma (Ali-chan) and went back to the con hoping to be able to get in line to watch the masquerade. Left at least one person to proxy and hit artists' alley again, then got in line for real. Dan's friend wanted some pix of Ryoma, so I went over to the side and took out the racket. As soon as I got the thing out, there's this massive screaming from ahead of us in the line: "Ryoma-samaaaaa!!!" ^^;; So I posed for a lot of pix. Then the masquerade opened for seating and we sat around for a good long while waiting for it to start. It was good, just long - 63 entries!! x_x;; But yeah, there were certainly some impressive costumes, and some amusing skits. I stuck around to watch the AMV contest winners while the judges were deliberating about the cosplay, but then left to find Jennie (who'd left a little earlier for the game room). They had Para Para this time, so I got to play a game (with Yahiko, of all people, the only other one at the con ^^). Tried to find a way to get Jennie home after the dance ('cause it started *after* the T stops running, yayfun) but Alex had already left so that was a no go. Wandered around for a bit more, but then we really were exhausted and headed home.
Con Highlights (which I'm sure I'll add to later...):
OMG Yahiko had so many fangirls. o.o;; It was kinda funny, but yeah, I couldn't go a few feet without hearing, "Yahiko-cha~n!" Got glomped a lot, asked for hugs, etc. Yahiko is, apparently, da man. ^^;; Said hi to one of the few Eds that were there, and seemed happy Yahiko greeted her and knew who she was. ^^
It was amazing, I actually saw GUYS cosplaying the following: Ginji, Hikaru (HikaGo Hikaru, it was this younger kid in jr. high or so, he was *so* cute and I'm sad I didn't get a pic), Tezuka, Eiji, and Allen Schezar.
The fire alarm went off Saturday afternoon, but of course no one left. Fire trucks actually showed up, though, and cosplayers took pix with the firemen. ^^;
Con Loot:
Pencilboards: Matantei Loki Ragnarok, Kino no Tabi
Last Exile OST 2 (US Release, someone had it early!)
Peacemaker Kurogane folder set with HOT!Older Tetsu
KAWAII~ Chibi Ayato from artists' alley
.hack//Twilight shirt (free from Bandai)
Phone strap from Pocky stall (also free)
... Whew! That *might* be it, but don't be surprised if there's an addendum later on.
Took Jennie to the airport this morning, definitely sad to see her go. It was a lot of fun having her here, especially our shopping escapades on Thursday. ^_^ But I'm hoping to be home next month for ACen (gotta get tix!!). Not I just have to finish cleaning before D&D, and *maybe* get some work done after that. Otherwise, if I disappear this week, you'll know why. Less than a month 'till the thesis is due!! O.O
