Murr. Well, while stuck at work (with nothing left to do) until it stops thunderstorming, I figured I'd update on my Cocoa Beach trip. ^_^
So. Let's see. Well, first of all, we decided to meet at Julian's and leave Tuesday morning at 5:30am. Now, seeing as I usually go to bed (i.e. get tired) about 3-4am, I figured it would be best to just forego sleeping. ^^; So I did just that. We probably left from Gvill between 6 and 6:30 - we had to pick up Jorge on the way, and so we ended up packing Julian's car full with himself, me, Scott, Leah, and Jorge.
The drive down was... LONG. @.@ 6.5 hours. It's supposed to be 3. But first we hit morning rush hour in Orlando (we expected that and built time into our schedule). Then we hit the fact that everyone in the state of Florida was trying to get to Canaveral to see the launch. >>; So as 10:39am neared, and we were about 20miles outside of Cocoa Beach, we just pulled over and got out of the car to watch the launch. Which rocked. XD I saw SRBs. And flames. And whee.
We decided to head into Cocoa Beach anyway, and got some lunch at this nifty greek place (that also served breakfast, so that's what most of us got). Next we figured we'd head to the beach - I hadn't even thought of bringing a swimsuit (me? in a swimsuit? yeah right ><), and neither had Scott, so while the other three swam we just wandered around a bit and wrote "UF ASTRONOMY" in the sand and whatnot. All of us hiked (FAR!) over to one of the piers to see if there were any sea turtles, but no such luck. There were surfers and ice cream, however. Then we hiked back to the car and decided to head out. It took about 4 hours to get home (though admittedly we did stop and grab Arby's to eat on the way back). But! All in all it was an awesome trip and I actually had quite a bit of fun. Finally, for once in my life, something social that didn't coincide with one of those days where I want to crawl back into bed at the thought of being with other people.
Um... in other news... Apparently they found another large almost-planet past Pluto that's bigger than Sedna. Of course, the article Scott was reading this morning claimed the thing "has a mass of 130 miles." ::Dies:: Someone didn't proofread~ XD;; I think it's supposed to be... at least a large percentage of Pluto's mass, and a moon to boot, but there are plenty of KBO's with satellites so that's not surprising.
Jen's coming tonight! Yay! I'm excited. Hopefully I'll be able to get some work on Kira done too. I haven't done a thing on him this week because I'm a horrible, horrible person. ><; But I think I can get the rest of him done in a week without too much trouble. Even the crazy zippers on his pants. @.@;
::HUGS:: for my sister. And I'll be going now. Darnit, stop raining so I can go home!!
