I do not think you are well. You called me Lucy.

dsjfafgnakla. It's been a busy week. XD Or... well, busy few days, anyway. Friday I picked up my grandmother in Orlando and we spent the weekend at DisneyWorld! :D (Hey, I swear it was her idea!) We got back Sunday evening and yesterday (ack, is it only Tuesday? Well, Wednesday now...) was made of attempting to see the shuttle launch from Gainesville (too cloudy, boo), pricing new microwaves, and Stargate. Lots and lots of Stargate. See, since everyone on Earth (well, okay, a large percentage of my friends) seems to like Stargate, and it is quite honestly the reason my grandmother bought a DVD player (so she could own it all on DVD, I kid you not), I figured I'd ask her to bring some of season 1 of SG-1 and I'd give it a try. I'd only ever caught episodes here and there before and it was really hard to figure out what was going on or why I should care about any of these people. So yesterday we watched... I don't know, something like the pilot and eight episodes. XD And then today we watched a whole bunch more.

First off, it's much better from the beginning. XD Now I see why we're actually supposed to care about people, though I admit I still think the whole Daniel's wife thing was pasted on in the movie and I still honestly don't care a lick about her. Sorry. But I care about him and clearly he cares about her so that part of the story is still okay.

I really didn't like Carter at first - she was kind of too perfect. Daniel doesn't know everything all the time. And O'Neill certaily fscks situations up left and right (and we love him for it XD). Teal'c... well, he's not perfect but even if he was, he's an alien and I could give him that. But Carter is kind of growing on me now, and at least she does appear to be a physicist (yay, they've got real scientists helping the writers out). But then they tend throw her in a labcoat and let her play with tissue samples like she's a medical doctor? Sorry guys, if she's got a PhD in theoretical astrophysics, she KNOWS NOTHING about medicine. (It's the Mohinder syndrome!) Which is kind of funny, really - whenever I'd seen an episode here or there in the past, I'd always assumed she was a medical doctor. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense to assign a medical doctor to the SG teams? People get hurt all the time. Who needs an astrophysicist when you could have a field medic? That just makes more sense to me. XD

Also, nanotechnology? Someone tell me how anyone with an astrophysics degree is going to be useful with that sort of thing. XD I don't think so. It's seriously the whole, "Hey, they're a scientist, they'll know the answer!" sort of issue. Which is sad, because hey, Daniel's a scientist too! He really is. And then they go and say he doesn't even know what EM radiation is. That's high school science, guys. :x

Also (x2)... we obviously made it, technologically speaking, to the level we're at today. Why hasn't anyone else? Are we going to meet aborigines for ten seasons? That would kind of suck. D: (Well, okay, we just watched a couple episodes today with more advanced people, thank you. I was beginning to be disappointed.) I do like how all the myths tie together, though. The premise all makes sense.

Oh, but also (x3!). Did we really need to destroy Thor's Hammer? I think not. Because, you know, hey guys, there was a whole lot of empty wall that you could have blown a hole in, let Teal'c out, and then sealed up so you could still use the chamber for future use. But no, we didn't think of that, now did we? ::facepalm:: Sometimes their solutions to things are a little... dumb. But thankfully not too often, so far.

Anyway, I'll probably have seen a lot more of season 1 by the time the week is out. It seems to be all we do when we're not out. XD But that's okay with me. Guess I might actually have to go looking for torrents when I get back.

Anyway, I haven't checked my flist since Friday morning and I probably won't really be able to catch up until this Friday. But I'll try then! So if you've actually noticed and felt like I was ignoring you, I wasn't! I've just been either running all over the place or losing brainmatter to that other shiny metal box that isn't the computer screen. :D;

Oh, man. Not that I haven't enjoyed the trip down from Chicago or the visit from my grandmother and not that I'm not looking forward to this three-week trip I have coming up in something like a week (OMG), but... I will be really, really happy to get home in June and just SIT AT HOME for a while. With my cat. <3

A couple of quick notes before I run, though! Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] rkold for the postcard, and an early Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] wearingskirts! (I have all your books for you! We should try and trade back sometime soon!) And I haven't forgotten about the drabble or icon memes, I just haven't had time to do them yet. I will, I swear! And [livejournal.com profile] valeriebean, sorry I missed your call earlier. I'll try to call back over the weekend? :D;

And now it's time for bed, if I'm going to get up at (ugh) 8:30.
