Who steals an old man's home? Who does that?

Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

1. Cats! :D Uh... I don't really know what to say about cats, other than I have never lived with fewer than one? I mean, for the most part we always had two; when I was little we had Kojiki and Kayaam. Kojiki was pretty much my mom's and didn't like anyone else, but Kayaam was really sweet. We had to put him down when I was in second grade because he developed diabetes (I don't know how old he was; or Kojiki for that matter) and that's when we got Sashi, right when I had the chicken pox and I couldn't go in to pick her out. XD Kojiki died of natural causes not too long after, and we got Rajah from a breeder and then we got Alexi from the same breeder and my mom decided to start breeding cats soon after. So we've pretty much had at least ten or so cats in the house at all times after that, though I think it got up to 27 with a few litters of kittens once.

Uh... bottom line, I love cats (especially Siamese cats; I should mention every cat we've owned with maybe three exceptions have been Siamese) and I will never live without one! Plus Sashi is the awesomeset cat ever. :D She is smart and doesn't let me get away with not paying attention to her and she loves catnip and The X-files and she was trying to eat my toes a little while ago...

2. The Hubble Telescope has recently suffered a stroke and has not yet recovered. XD I think they're supposed to send up a servicing mission in April, maybe? The problem is the Hubble's computer is from the 80s and they can't just replace it with a Pentium-whatever-they-have-these-days. >>; But for the most part, it's the best thing ever - I mean, light travels all the way across the universe just to tell us what stuff is like out there, and in the last nanoseconds of the journey it hits our stupid atomosphere and gets all messed up - WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? D: But the Hubble is above the atmosphere, so it has much better resolution and doesn't suffer from a lot of the problems that ground-based telescopes do. It's actually not even that big - the mirror is something like 2 meters (~the size of a doorframe), as opposed to the 10m telescopes we have to build on the ground to do the same kind of science.

I will be very sad when they discontinue upkeep on the Hubble, because it's just so good at doing things close-up and to high accuracy, which is pretty much everything I do. The work I'm doing is very hard to do with any telescope but the Hubble. They are sending up a new telescope (the James Webb) in ~2013 (so they say), but it will be an infrared telescope and won't look at the same wavelengths that Hubble does, so it will never be able to directly replace it.

3. Star Trek... uh, I don't even know where to start? Maybe in junior high, when I was the biggest Trek nerd ever and watched TNG every single night at 6pm. I even had a TNG watch with an alarm that I set for 6pm every day so I would know when it was on. Yes, I did. XD I could also watch about ten seconds of any TNG episode and tell you the title. I can't do that anymore, BTW. >>; TNG really was my first love; I didn't like DS9 as much when I was in high school, and I didn't get to see most of Voyager or Enterprise when they were on. Recently I watched all of DS9 and Voyager and really loved them; I'm in the middle of watching Enterprise and I'm going to marry Trip and Scott has all of TNG and we watch a couple of episodes at his place every week. I've seen various episodes of TOS, though I don't like it as much as the newer stuff. I did just get it all (thank you Jen! <3) and Diana and I have the idea that we're going to watch it all~ Oh, TOS and your data tapes...

Basically, even though I've recently gotten really hardcore into Star Wars, I will always be a Trekkie first and foremost. It got me ostracized in junior high and you know what, it was worth it. XD (I had this Starfleet Academy shirt that I got at my first convention and I used to wear it ALL THE TIME.) I am not sure how I feel about the new movie, but I'll give it a chance. Oh! Though speaking of movies, I've been on part of the set for First Contact! Well, kind of? XD The missle base they filmed it at was in Pima, AZ (because while there was a Titan Missle site in Montana, it's no longer there and the only one left you can see is the one in AZ and I've been to that one multiple times). I remember one time I was visiting my grandparents in AZ and I wanted to go to the missle like we always did, but they said I couldn't because they were filming a movie there. So I asked what movie, and they said, "Oh, some Star Trek movie." That made me want to go even more! XDD (Speaking of sets, I've also been on the bridge of the Enterprise-D, in Vegas. THAT WAS THE BEST THING EVER I MEAN I SAT AT CONN MY LIFE IS COMPLETE.)

ALSO for the record, Jen used to hate it. She made up nicknames for everyone on TNG. It was quite fabulous. But eventually she saw the error of her ways and decided Trek was actually pretty awesome~ (Don't worry, that's all I'll say~ <3)

4. Uh... I think I'm the only person I know that likes Mercedes Lackey. XD; Namely, I like her Valdemar series; I've read a couple of other books by her that weren't Velgarth-based, but I didn't like them as much. I just really, really like Valdemar and the Heralds and all that. (Actually, I really like Bards, like that cute one named Medren. ;D) And I do have to admit that one of my very favorite books ever (Magic's Pawn) is by her. I could pretty much finish that book and turn right back to page one and read it again. I know, I'm lame. I freely admit she's not a literary great or anything, I just like the Heralds of Valdemar. Though I do feel the need to point out that Skuld got me into her, since she read the Vanyel books first and recommended them to me because they were about a gay boy. I'm pretty sure she hates the rest of her books, though.

5. Apartment life is loud. Well, mine is. XD My upstairs neighbors have a band and you know what, even when they're just puttering around their apartment THEY ARE LOUD. They woke me up this morning when someone took a shower at 6am. >> I think the floor/ceiling is just thin and I can pretty much hear everything they do/say/etc. Plus they drop stuff a lot. XD

Okay, but really, I love having my own apartment because it has a balcony and a room just for sewing (and litter boxes) and a nice big closet for all my comics and boxes. I actually have a pretty decent-sized place, and the kitchen and bathroom and carpet are only as old as the length of time that I've been living here. Though I did have an Epic Flood in here a couple years ago, which was kind of not fun. I'm sure you all remember me complaining about that, though. XD;

Whew! I hope that wasn't too boring. D:

I came home and literally spent four hours trying to do ONE THING on Padme's shirt. ::fail:: It's not even quite finished yet, but I needed to give up around 10pm and actually make dinner. XD I think I'm just going to set the shirt aside and finish it up LAST. Next up will be the bootcovers. And I can't forget the belt!

I started proofing Jennie's paper (halfway done!) and I think I just need to work on cutting down that contest entry to 1,000 words (I hope the story makes sense, I have to pay money to enter this one!). Funnily enough, it's about a guy named Kevin, and I keep picturing... well, either Kevin Smith (of the PoT variety) or my new main man, Mister Levin. XD It's quite funny. In my head, at least. >>; Man. I wish I had more time to write. :x I need to get the next PJO chapter out and I have an idea for the new Merlin prompt....

But despite that I kind of just ended up watching two episodes of Ben 10 Alien Force and I really want to sit around and do nothing tomorrow but watch more Ben 10. XD ::FAIL:: And no, I really cannot get an idea for a fic, that would be a terrible, horrible idea. Really. REALLY, BRAIN. And I know I just used this icon but TOO BAD.

Okay, bedtime! Because I am tired. D:
